What We Eat
Just a sampling of what we eat in our house, yes I said WE. Since starting the Dog's on homecooked meals, I plan our meals with them in mind. If I get a hungering for Pork Roast, I cook 2, 5 lb. roasts with all the fixins. The dog's get one of them and we get part of the other. I save back some leftovers for some BBQ pork the next day and whats left goes into the dog's stew the next day, same way with Beef Roast.  Meatloaf...I make 2 huge ones, Mike and I eat on ours for a couple of days and the dog's get the rest in their pot of goodies. Turkey dinner, we don't wait for Thanksgiving and get to indulge whenever I can catch a good sale on it. I make all the fixin's in mass amounts so the dog's get to indulge as well. Theirs goes in to a 22 qt. stew pot with even more goodies added. Beef and Noodles, Yum!! Because of the Dog's, we have switched to whole wheat pasta (much better for you and a great source of Protein). I make a huge pot, take some out for us and add some more goodies for the kid's. Chicken and noodles or dumplings go the same way. I use whole wheat flour for dumplings and gravy by making a Rue and thickening up their stew if I don't throw rice or oats in it for thickener. Every now and again, we have a sandwich night (I forget to take something out of the freezer in time) The dog's LOVE, Peanut butter and Fried Egg Sammy's on whole grain bread, (they are actually pretty good). You of course won't have to cook in the quanities I do as I am feeding a whole house full of Bullies. I actually enjoy it alot. The Dog's are awesome dinner guests and go crazy all day long with their noses in the air anticipating whats for dinner. I have never seen them eat so enthusiastically on plain Kibble. I have been in the restaraunt business since I was 14, without giving away all my secrets that would be 30 plus years. It's in my blood to cook huge meals and since retiring from the business, and the human kid's all moving out, I still haven't figured out how to cook for 2, so we ended up living on canned soup, sandwiches or just eating out. When I cooked it would be mass amounts of food and I would feed anybody that dared come near my house, by dragging them in and insisting they eat, (reminds me of my Grandma LOL!). I litterally cringe if I have to throw food away, my Grams always said that was a sin to throw good food away.  In Summary, I have an outlet for my obsession of feeding large crews and We and the Dog's are getting much healthier by eating nutritious home cooked meals and I never have to throw anything away. I will be adding a recipe page as time permits so keep a watch for it. Happy cooking for your fur buddies, you and them will love it!!
